The North Face Ultra GTX Trail Running Shoe is the winter version of The North Face signature shoe, the Ultra 100. This shoe was designed tough for ultra-marathon runners, adventure racers and fast packers who refuse to let a little ice and snow stand in the way. That being said, we suppose mailmen could use them as well. Made from waterproof/breathable Gore-Tex, they'll keep you warm in most any conditions. Bottom line: Neither rain nor snow nor sleet nor hail could stop the Ultra 100 GTX Trail Shoe.

The North Face Switchback Trail Running Shoe. The North Face Switchback Trail Running shoe eats up the miles through an innovative cleat system that adapts to fill all of your traction needs. Two interchangeable cleat lengths supply a tenacious grip in all trail conditions from bone dry to heavy mud, slush, packed snow and ice. A radical new technology enables you to change cleat patterns quickly and easily with just a quarter turn of the included cleat wrench. The recessed soft spikes are intended for general road and dry conditions. The Scorpion Spike is designed for trail running in severe conditions such as mud, slush, packed snow and ice. Bottom Line: If you want to take a day off from running, hit the golf course in the Switchbacks. If you golf like we do you'll be spending most of your day in the woods anyway.

The Salomon XA Pro Trail Running Shoe. The lightweight XA Pro has fast become the trail runner’s shoe of choice. Salomon’s pro chassis combines a dual density EVA midsole that absorbs shock with a Contagrip outsole that provides incredible traction on virtually any terrain. A quick-lace system allows you to tie your shoes without the tying. One quick tug, and your feet are secure and ready to hit the trail. The XA Pro is quick drying and perfectly ventilated with open-air mesh to keep your foot cool and dry after mile one or one hundred. This shoe isn’t just for the hardcore trail runner, though. It’s like a decked out SUV for your feet—stylish enough to drive around town but equipped to charge up the most rugged backcountry roads. Bottom Line: A feature laden, all terrain vehicle for your feet.

The Salomon Raid Race Trail Running Shoe. The Raid Race Shoe was built to withstand the abuse of fast paced multi-terrain adventure races. More than a running shoe but less than a boot, the Raid Race offers excellent stability, traction and control. The advanced chassis construction keeps you in tune with the terrain by combining dual density foam with a sole of contagrip rubber. The result is an amazing combination of agility and protection that makes a five day adventure race seem like a Boy Scout overnight. Bottom Line: Whether you are competing against the clock, competitors, or out to push yourself, the Salomon Raid Race shoes will give you the edge you deserve.

The North Face Ultra 100 Trail Running Shoe. The Ultra 100 shoe is designed to meet the unique requirements of endurance trail runners and is the ultimate in performance and protection! If you need a trail running shoe with maximum stability this shoe is for you. The Ultra 100 is also compatible with the scree gaiter to help keep out trail debris. Bottom line:Put these shoes on and you'll instantly know you're on a really solid platform. They feel very stable laterally, and they're surprisingly lightweight!

The North Face Ultra 102 Trail Running Shoe. The North Face Ultra 102 is a lighter variation of TNF’s renowned classic, the Ultra 100, and one of the toughest trail running shoes available. The Ultra 102’s offer better motion control, more protection, and additional cushioning in the heel and forefoot. A larger medial posting provides even better “roll control” to reduce the chances of rolling your ankle. The North Face refined the scree gaiter attachments so they’re tighter & tougher, also switching from fabric eyelets to plastic for superior durability. The Ultra 102’s Outlast footbed provides excellent thermal regulation. Bottom Line: An ironclad trail running shoe that meets the demands of ultra marathoners, adventure racers, and fast packers.

The Salomon Flagstaff Trail Running Shoe. The Salomon Flagstaff is a lightweight, speed oriented shoe designed to address the needs of adventure racing and mountain running. With a Contagrip2 sole that sticks like mountain goat hooves, the Flagstaff uses two kinds of rubber for a perfect combination of incredible traction & lateral stability on varied terrain. Its quick-drying, single layer mesh upper is super breathable ensuring your feet will stay cool & dry while blazing up & down the trail. Adventure racers, trail runners, & mountain enthusiasts will all benefit from the Flagstaff’s superb breathability, comfortable fit, and bomber traction. Bottom Line: A high performing trail running & adventure racing shoe that handles rugged terrain with ease. At an attractive price, too!

The Montrail Vitesse Trail Running Shoe. Designed for neutral runners, the Montrail Vitesse provides superior control, stability and complete protection against trail obstacles on any excursion. Don’t worry about ankle roll. And get them as wet as you want. Their hydrophobic uppers repel water and the entire shoe dries faster than you could possibly imagine. Bottom Line: The Montrail Vitesse Hiking Shoe is a time-tested gem for Adventure Racing, hiking, and canyoneering. Wear them with confidence.
