The Oakley Half Jacket frame only contacts the lense at the very top. So there is no risk of scratching. But even if there was more contact, it wouldn't matter. The Oakley lenses are much more resilient than any pair of sunglasses I've ever owned. I seriously HAVE NOT been able to scratch them. Yet I've dropped them in the street, on rocky mountain bike trails. The lenses have taken many direct hits without a whimper.

Like the Smith's, you can interchange all sorts of replacement lenses as light conditions change. Use something dark when the sun is blazing. Use clear or light yellow in low light conditions or whatever. They've got a whole bunch of Oakley Half Jacket replacement lenses to choose from, depending on your taste.

The Smith's seemed like a good mountain biking and backcountry ski touring option because on long rides or tours, light conditions change. So rather than carry around a few pairs of shades, we were stuck with these lame sliders. But now Oakley has finally stepped up to the plate with a great interchangeable lense option. The image is much better, the lenses are much stronger, and the whole design just makes a hell of a lot more sense. Go buy a pair.

When ordering I thought ,seeing the other lenses displayed, that these glasses came with 3 interchangeable lenses. I suppose it's my mistake but I think it should be displayed more clearly. Love the glasses though.
